Standard IEC 61131-3 is a standard about programming language for PLC, developed by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Standard IEC 61499 is based on Standard IEC 61131-3. It overcomes the limitation of using Standard IEC 61131-3 in distributed control systems. Modbus Protocol is a kind of open field bus communication protocol developed by MODICON. It is now supported by many instrument producers and applied to the industrial control field extensively. This article introduces how to use Modbus Communication Protocol in distributed control, and uses it to communicate between a computer and ARM controller. The problem of standardization is settled and the reliability and stability in communication is improved. We use software based on IEC 61131-3 to program controlling programs required by experiment, and show the data exchange between the Programming System and the Target System in detail. At last, the control programs are downloaded into an ARM demo board to form an ARM distributed controller. This controller is used to control a Three-tank Liquid Level, and gets a good result.Introduces the Standard IEC 61499, compares the advantage and disadvantage of Standard IEC 61131-3 and Standard IEC 61499 using in distributed control, and sets up an algorithm on the software based on it.
