The mobile communication terminal is changing to multimedia communication terminal from general communication terminal gradually.Along with the DSC component applied in mobile communication terminal,it upgrades the video function of mobile communication terminal.Furthermore it drives the development of video capaturing and playing on mobile communication terminal.Currently,MPEG-4 Simple Profile standard is being used as one of primary video compression standards in the field of mobile video communication.But the microcontroller applied in mobile communication terminal widely is 32-bit RISC ARM7TDMI based microcontroller.But the processing power available is limited.And the capability of mobile communication terminal is also limited by power consumption.The mobile communication terminal in this paper applies TI Calypso chipset,which combines a DSP sub-chip(TMS320C54x family)and a microcontroller(32-bit RISC ARM7TDMI-based).The purpose of this paper is to make MPEG-4 Simply Profile decoder run on ARM7TDMI-based microcontroller in TI Calypso chipset smoothly and efficiently.Hence the optimization of MEPG-4 Simple Profile video decoder is inevitable.This paper describes the solution of the optimization of the MPEG-4 simple profile video decoder in details, which runs on mobile communication terminal with 32-bit RISC ARM7TDMI-based microcontroller.Firstly this paper analyzes TI Calypso chipset,then the archictecture,instruction set and charicteristics of ARM7TDMI.Secondly,this paper researches and analyzes the characteristics,architecture,coding algorithm,decoder's architecture and decoding process of MPEG-4 Simple Profile standard.Last,according to the processing power of ARM7TDMI,this papaer brings forward and describes the solution of the optimization of MPEG-4 simple profile decoder,which makes MEPG-4 simple profile decoder match the requirement of ARM7TDMI-based microcontroller.
