Frame And The Construction Of News Text

Frame theory is an important communication theory springing from America. It gradually draws much attention of many media scholars. Until now the interest in the theory is increasing rather than decreasing. In journalism field, Scholars almost study news frame on three dimensions: the first one is news production; the second is news text; and the third is the interaction between audience. Based on frame theory, this study examines the relationship between frame and news text .The aim for this is to know how media using frame to construct news text and whether or not different nature media having different frame in news reporting on the same issue. The main content of this study is arranged like the following:The main content of this study is divided into three parts. The first part explores the relationship among frame, media reality and news text from the origin of frame, the meaning of frame, the function mechanism of frame and the internal structure of frame. This part also gives out the author's thought about this theory. And this has prepared theory for the following's diagnosis analysis.The second part is the content analysis for a case. This study takes the reporting for Beijing Olympic Games'preparation on People's Daily and Xinjing Daily as the research sample. With the content analytic method of frame list orientation from Tankard, this study constructs different attributes of news theme, news text's structure and information sources. With the data material analysis of theme frame, text's structure frame and information sources frame. This study discovers that different native newspaper (People's Daily and Xinjing Daily) has a relationship involving integration and competition in theme frame, a relationship involving unity and diversion in text's structure frame, a relationship involving bias and multielement in information sources frame.The second part is the research summary. Based on the above analysis and the proposed question in research overhead construction, this research draws the following conclusions: 1,As a whole, newspaper highlights text frame characteristic when reporting Beijing Olympic Games'preparation. First of all, newspaper highlights occurrence characteristic; Secondly, the text's structure frame of newspaper highlights detailed characteristic; thirdly, information sources frame of newspaper highlights authoritative and unofficial characteristic. There are not only similarities but also differences on the news text frames of different native newspaper. First of all, different native newspaper presents the uniform characteristic on the leading text frame; secondly, different native newspaper has different stresses on the apt text frame; thirdly, different information sources have different stress dimensions in constructing the issue's theme frame. After that, this research analyzes the factors, which influence the frame of reporting for Beijing Olympic Games'preparation (newspaper text frame), from organizational pressures and constraints, pressures of interest group. Finally, this paper points out the flows and corresponding suggestion of this study.
