Visualization in scientific computing is a new research which the developed countries have put forward to in the late 1980s'. It applies the computer graphics image processing technique to transform the resulting data from the process of scientific computing to graphics and images that will be displayed in computer screen.The core of visualization in scientific computing is three dimensional data field's visualization. There are several algorithms. The direct volume rendering is a rapidly developed visualization method of three dimensional data field in recent years and is a hot research. Because it not only designs the surface of three dimensional data field but also makes the data field as the whole to be displayed. So the direct volume rendering can represent the more rich information and regulation. But the speed of designing image using this method is rather slow and hard to arrive at a real time designing. So we need further research in this method to improve the quality and the efficiency of the volume rendering.In this thesis, the theories and methods of visualization in scientific computing are introduced and described. Firstly, several rendering methods and their characters are analyzed. Some methods of the volume rendering, the illumination modal, theory, and the algorithm flow are introduced. Secondly, we mainly analyzed the volume data's visualization of the medical images and convert the data file into a one-dimension array in detail. It adduces the data that will be dealed with. Thirdly, we preprocess the image so that it is convenient to be used in the next operations. Ray-casting volume rendering and some correlative technologies, such as shading model, resampling and mapping are introduced. Finally, we implement the three dimensional data field visualization of head MR images, and the size of the object data source is 216*216*216. The reconstructed images vividly represent the organization, and we obtained the anticipate result.
