Web has become the ideal intermedium to broadcast maps along with the popularization of Internet and geographical information system. Thousands of people access to the maps that are static, dynamic and self-defined. Internet broadcast the information to the public; it makes common people benefit from the GIS technology just like professionals. And the GIS based on Internet has become one of the most popular and important trends of development.The launch of maps service like the model of Google Maps predicts the beginning of global geographical information service. The implementation of web GIS developing platform along with the application of high resolving power satellite images has become the primary tendency of global GIS.This thesis try to design a hand-held GIS terminal based on the real free satellite pictures of Google Maps, with which, is implemented a integrated application of embedded, WebGIS and GPS related technology. It makes the common public enjoy the related service of geographical information without the dependence of some professional toll digital maps.Firstly, we extend the related hardware such as GPS and wireless Ethernet module to design the hardware platform of portal GIS terminal by taking the GENE8310 embedded developing platform as kernel.Secondly, construct the embedded XPE OS for this terminal by using the Windows Embedded Studio toolkit.Afterward, try to design and implement such a WebGIS system by taking the advantage of real free picture resource provided with Google Maps and using of Ajax Web design mode. With which, it provides the related geographical information for the hand-held terminal.Next, make an implementation to read the related information of longitude and latitude measured by GPS accepter in real time to provide the GPS position information for hand-held terminal through the research of GPS related technology and programming.Eventually, the thesis make brief discuss about the application of this hand-held terminal to the field of vehicle-carried position navigation.It has an expansive prospect in the field of geographical information service such as vehicle-carried position navigation, sight-seeing, traffic monitor weather service and entertainment etc, along with the development of this hand-held terminal.
