With the complexity of geological and geographical environment, large differences of climate, widely distributed geological hazards, China becomes one of the world's most serious geological disaster countries. In order to carry out prevention and control of geological disasters, reduce disaster losses and protect people's lives and property safety, there is a need for the investigation of geological disasters and the establishment of geological hazard information system. The system must be able to effectively organize the management of huge amounts of date, dynamic update of data, fast information flow and timely release of disaster management information. Geological hazard information system is a GIS-based application.WebGIS is a very popular application of GIS technology. It applies Internet technology to GIS development. WebGIS is capble of dealing with the perfect combination of spatial information and attribute information, has an intuitive way to show all a moving target and fixed target location and status, can directly control management of the target on the map. WebGIS system is user-friendly, easy to operate, real-time, strong, stable and reliable. This paper studies the course of development of WebGIS and advantages and disadvantages of different WebGIS technology. According to the characteristics of geological disaster information system, it implements a WebGIS platform based on Ajax. The system data stores in SQL Server 2005 database, using the Web Serviece technology, access to information data will be packaged as network data services. The maps in this system are pre-cut gird maps. Combination of ASP.NET and Ajax technology, the system achieves a good load balance. This system has a fast, effective and smooth transition, a good user experience to meet the tremendous number of requests for vistors. It can apply to two aspects. First, map-oriented public service and the other is mass of the business applications of vector data.
