With the development of Internet's scale and complexity, it is more and more important to upgrade the networks, a new Internet, which centers on IPv6—Next Generation Internet (NGI) has received widespread attention. Next Generation Internet (NGI) has been widely applied to 3G, IP telecom network, personal intelligent terminal, family network, on-line game, distributed computing and so on, with bright application prospects.Because of tremendous application value of Next Generation Internet (NGI), great attentions have been pain to them by many military departments, industry and academia researchers. As a new research area, Next Generation Internet (NGI) face many challenges, one of them is network management for Next Generation Internet (NGI). Network management is a technology and method used to monitor, diagnose, test and control communication equipments or transmission systems in networks. Management for Next Generation Internet (NGI) is an important condition for ensuring network security, stability, reliability and high-efficiency.The managed objects in Next Generation Internet (NGI) are more and more various and complicated, and Next Generation Internet (NGI) need more capable network management, such as network security, network quality guarantee and so on. So current network management model cannot manage the network efficiently now. To complement the weaknesses, there need a new network management model for Next Generation Internet (NGI). Aimed at the prospect and the request of network management for Next Generation Internet (NGI), the thesis studies network management architecture and related issues for Next Generation Internet (NGI).After an overall introduction of Next Generation Internet(NGI) and network management, on the basis of features of Next Generation Internet(NGI) such as distributed, large-scale and complexity, a new XML( extensible Markup Language) based integrated network management architecture for Next Generation Internet(NGI) is proposed. This model adopts a pattern, which distributed in general, centralized in local and divides the manager into Center-Manager and Local-Manager. Using XML to describe the management information and management message and HTTP protocol to transmit message. In addition, In order to deal with the problems of compatibility with legacy system supporting the SNMP and other common protocols, a translation gateway is then introduced; the gateway achieves the goal of mutual translation between XML and SNMP, or between XML and other common protocols. According to the special requirements of network management for Next Generation Internet (NGI). the management information base has been improved in order to configuration function more effective. Finally, A possible scenario to implement the XML-based manager is presented.
