Nowadays, the telecom business is developed from the traditional voice or network platform business to a more flexible, client-centered, and capable of providing digital multimedia information business, IPTV is one of the important forms. In addition to the vast business opportunities and benefits space which IPTV will bring to us, it will also provide unprecedented opportunities on the market for the IPTV operators with their personalized advertisements. Especially for the content providers, they will able to lead and arrange their own advertising time for each channels in IPTV networks, thus it will get greater revenue sources. To research and realize advertising insertion under this background has a strong practical value. This thesis researches deeply about how to realize advertising insertion in IPTV system, and reports with the order from theoretical analysis, solution proposition to design certification.Firstly, this thesis summarizes the IPTV major business functions, system architecture and several main technologies. Some parts of them which are related to this thesis's object are described detailedly, such as live TV business, value-added services and multicast technology, streaming media technology, etc.And then, as the existing digital television advertisements splicing technique, the hard-cutting and DPI (Digital Programming Insertion) splicing methods are introduced one by one, and we try to apply them into IPTV system. According to the system requirements for advertising insertion in IPTV system, DPI technology is used to realize it for IPTV at first, but some disadvantages like high costs, limited codec format and insertion type are existing. So this paper further improves the use of hard cutting method, combines with virtual channel business, and presents a more practical solution. Meanwhile, in order to improve the splicing efficiency during the different transport stream, this paper analyzes and researches how to deal with these streams' format and how to choose the suitable splicing point.Finally, to test the feasibility and effectiveness for this solution, we design and realize a small advertising insertion simulation system with WinSock and WinPcap network programming technologies. The experimental results show that this simulation system can read advertising list well, respond to the operation of splicing switch during live TV broadcasting immediately, and the splicing effect is smooth, without mosaic or halt. It proves that the above solution is feasible and effective.
