This paper is based on the studies of the variousadvertisements from 1911 to 1919 in Shenbao, which involvedcultural education publication,transportation,finance,textile and garments,industrial and mining machinery,dailyappliance and casuals and pharmacy. Shenbao is regarded as the"encyclopedia of modern history" for its long history,influence and high historical value.The research starts from 1911 for its significance in thedevelopment of China. It is in this year that 1911 Revolutionbreaks out. It brings about such a heavily that penetrating inall corner of China: collapsing of feudalism, the establishmentof democracy. Meanwhile, the international environment alsochanged---the outbreak and extending of the World War I. Therehas been a decrease in the fluence of foreign capital in China,China national capitalism developed speedily. As the beginningof the New Culture Movement, the year of 1919 exerts greatersignificance to the development of China, so I decide to makethe advertisements of this period as the time segment of study.Shenbao is famous for the publication of various kinds ofadvertisements. The publication of China's economy andeducation is completed from the articles of daily use, hobbies of the citizen, fashion in small sense to economicalconstruction in large sense, such as the buildup of the railways,raising money, establishing the mines etc. During this period,the newspaper reported every side of the social and civil life,which deserves the honor of "encyclopedia of modern history"According to the content and function, the advertisementsare divided into seven categories in Shenbao, as follows: 1.Cultural education publication 2. Transportation. 3 finance4. textile and garment 5. industrial and mining machinery 6.Daily appliance and casuals 7. Pharmacy. The paper will analyzein deep sense, combining with specific historical materials andthe statistics of economical history. We attempt to disclosethe economical social historical and international problemsbehind the advertisements through analysis. Meanwhile, bycomparing and contrasting the quantitative variation, thepaper will illustrate the development of China nationalcapitalism and the living condition of common China citizenrepresented by citizen in Shanghai.
