Large-scale river model experiments made on Yellow River always play important role in Yellow River improvement works. Model's terrain intelligence is necessary information for those experiments. To measure the terrain more rapidly and accurately, GS200 3D laser scanner was imported. After every measurement, the data sets called Points Clouds which contain the coordinate of measured object are presented. Compared with traditional terrain measuring methods, laser scanning can do the job much faster. But two problems appear. The first one is that a manage software is needed to manage the scanning activities. The second one is that the points clouds data processing software is not designed for river model measuring use, so it can't draw the river sections drawing. A particular sections drawing software is needed. The two kind of software are developed. The sections drawing software is called SectionPainter and the merging programming technology of VB and MATLAB are used. Developer use VB.NET to design the interface, handle the file I/O and use Matlab to do terrain 3D preview, curve fitting and drawing. The data manager software has a Browser/Client structure. It includes several ASPs. The user can create, manage and review the records of scanning works. The points clouds files are all kept on a FTP server.
