Economic rapid growth makes us putting more and more attention on security and protection. As the traditional local analog type of surveillance system can't satisfy the requirements of some applications, such as large wide area, long distance surveillance just like cross region remote surveillance in the bank system. The evolution of network surveillance appears to fit these needs. Inherent advantage of the network surveillance are good at concentrative managements, cost saving, smart integrating, convenient operating and widely used in fields of finance, administration of justice, public security and so on. The IP surveillance market is growing significantly and is receiving global attention now. IP camera becomes more and more popular in current surveillance system market.IP cameras are designed focus on network surveillance. As the core device of network surveillance, IP cameras integrate video capture capabilities, video compress, transmission and control as one. By used of these devices, User can transmit captured video to another peer by network. Associated with the software in PC, can realize remote video surveillance and record conveniently. Also get the benefits of disposing quickly.This paper focus on the design of IP camera, which adopt real time OS, H.264 code/decode standard and base on the IP protocol. Describe in detail about hardware architecture, software design and arithmetic of audio/video compressionIn this design, Ti DSP is used as main processor which supply the capability of H.264 video code, audio code/decode, network protocol processing, consumer management and alarm management associated with DSP/BIOS embedded real time operation system. Adopting standard H.264 is the highlight of this design, it can transmit video stream upon IP protocol at lower bit rate. Compare with the current standard such as MPEG-2,MPEG-4 and H.263, we can supply better video quality, more efficiency compression and high recover rate of data package. And better suitable for narrow band transmission channel.
