Embedded WiMAX Terminal System Design

Wireless broadband communication is developing with higher rate, wider ranging and mobility. WiMAX technology satisfies the need of wireless Interne and will become the best scheme of last one kilometer access.This paper aims to design an embedded wireless broadband network terminal which can be used in WiMAX network. A variety of applications development could be done on the base of this terminal system design, such as wireless VoIP phones, PDA with WiMAX function, wireless monitor terminal and the communications module used in the industrial scene.First, this paper introduces and analyses WiMAX wireless broadband access technology and embedded system development deeply. Then gives the possible design schemes based on the study of the subject and determines the final selection of specific design scheme.The system design chooses modular architecture. The system contains two module, main processor chip and WiMAX chip. Freescale Dragon ball processor MC9328MX1 is chosen to be the main processor chip. A variety of applications can be developed on the base of this chip. Fujitsu WiMAX chip MB87M3400 is a kind of outstanding performance and highly integrated WiMAX System-on-Chip. Main processor module controls WiMAX module and does data transmission to achieve WiMAX access of the designed terminal system.In the subject study of system design, the author's mainly complete the work in the following aspects:1. Determine the final selection of specific design scheme through the study and analysis of the feasibility.2. Propose the modular structure of system and select appropriate hardware and equipment to complete hardware design.3. Design system software mainly includes compiling andtransplantation of embedded Linux operating system and the design of relevant driver and application program.
