Study Of QoS Management For IMS Based NGN

IMS that was first proposed by 3GPP has become a focus of NGN study and aquired wide recognition from ITU, ETSI TISPAN, 3GPP2 and other standard organizations. The changes in the network technologies have imposed huge challenges on the construction of new network management systems. NGN bases its traffic transports on packet transport network, which leads to high resource efficience as well as imposes challenges on QoS (Quality of Service) assurance. Therefore the QoS assurance has become a new hot study topic in the industry but worldwidely it's still unsettled to bring a management system that both fully facilitates IMS agility and assures carrier class QoS.This thesis aims to bring some light on the problem about how to efficetively and economically manage QoS of the multi-services running on the IMS based NGN system. The thesis first briefs network and management technologies about UMTS, IMS and QoS laying a background where the later proposed IMS QoS management system is constructed. Secondly, the thesis studies the QoS management enabled network management architecture by analyzing IMS features and QoS management requirements. Thirdly, the thesis concludes the QoS measurement techniques used on today's networks and puts forward some ways to adapte them to NGN envirement and furthermore proposes a new technique for IMS QoS measurement. Fourthly, taking the mobile streaming service as an example, the thesis highlights a real world QoS management system with more implementation details and a prototype's design. Finally, the thesis concludes the whole work and plans future work.
