Nowadays the Ku-band satellite communication system has become an important part of modern satellite-based communications. As the transport speed grows, it provides more kinds of services, and plays more and more important role. However, the particular network element and running character of satellite communication system is a new challenge to network management technology. How to manage the Ku-band satellite network in a swift, efficient, flexible way is a question to be answered. The network management products of foreign vendors don't support Chinese characters and service management. Therefore it becomes an emergency to develop a secure network management system that fulfills our Chinese customers' need.In the beginning, this thesis introduced the basic knowledge of Ku-band satellite communication system and the concept of Network Management, and discussed the difference between satellite network management and normal IP network management. Based on characteristics of Ku-band satellite communication system and basic requirements of network management system, the paper analyzed the function requirements of Ku-band satellite network management, and put forward the function architecture of NMS. According to that, the thesis described the design of the system in detail, including network parameter algorithm, database design and data collecting module design. On the basis of requirements analysis and system design, we developed the Ku-band satellite NMS. The thesis described the GUI framework and the data collecting framework then. A few pictures of typical GUI are pasted to represent the implementation of Ku-band satellite NMS. Finally, the conclusion of this paper and some future work are briefly introduced.
