The Research Of IMS Application Trend In The Telecommunication Industry

At present, the competition among operators is increasingly fierce; especially the fixed network operators' average revenue per user (ARPU) is falling sharply. Operators hope integrates services through the network convergence, make new income growth point. Meanwhile, the unified platform of the convergence of fixed and mobile network (FMC) will make network structure clearer. The convergence of fixed and mobile network makes the management convenient and great reduction of capital expense (CAPEX) and operating expense (OPEX).IMS network makes the FMC possible. IMS has been the favor of ETSI, ITU-T and other standardization organizations besides the 3GPP. They confirm IMS as a basic structure of NGN core network. DT, BT, FT and some other famous telecommunication operators have set up their long-term goals in Next-generation Network and convergent business. Especially they begin to do some important researches on IMS which is the essential technology for the convergent network. Besides, some telecommunication manufactures have enlarged their research resources on the application of IMS for fixed network, and put the standardization of IMS forward.Network structure based on IMS can fulfill the access requirement of fixed network and the service requirement of future network. IMS plays a vital role in the fixed mobile convergence at core service control layer and supports multiple service of high layer, so IMS represents the development direction of future next generation network. This paper describes the demand of network convergence, then introduces standard development of IMS, and analyzes the development trend of IMS-based fixed-mobile convergence, finally presents the application trend of IMS in China and the and the key problems in the FMC development.
