Nowadays the embedded system is becoming more and more popular and its applications can be found in many aspects of industry. In the heated competition the traditional developing method for embedded system is being driven out because of its drawbacks;hard to debug,relatively higher cost and long developing cycle and so on..Meanwhile, a new developing method is coming into being-Rapid Prototyping Technology.By using SOC technology a rapid prototyping design can be made.NiosII based SOPC design is developed by Altera Corporation. By using this technology embedded system can be designed in a rapid way and can be easily modified,the cost can be reduced and the developing circle can be shortened.SOPC is a flexible,eficient SOC design methodology,which integrates processor, memory, I/Os and other peripherals into a PLD. NiosII is a soft core microprocessor, which can be used to build a SOPC design. The SOPC design environment is SOPC Builder, which is integrated in the EDA tool Quartus II. What this paper introduce is the design of numerical control intelligent hand hold unit based on NiosII softcore processor, compare with traditional numerical control hand hold unit,it can be used to facilitate NC operation, and improves reliability of NC process.By explaining the numerical control intelligent hand hold unit, the current paper illustrates how to use NiosII Soft Core CPU to design Embedded System. The current paper begins with the introduction of the history, quo status and prospect of embedded technology.Then it analyzes the structure and mechanism of the NiosII Soft Core CPU, in addition, analyzes the Avalon bus. It was uC/OSII real-time operating system that adopted in the design instance of this paper. The current paper introduced the detail of its kernel and operating mechanism, and provides its transplantation method to NiosII platform.Lastly,it presents the details of application layer code of numerical control intelligent hand hold unit.
