The embedded system has entered the various fields of our society,whose kernel is the embedded processor.In the numerous processors,the ARM processor is designed for embedded application,outstanding in its low power,high cost-performance and easy extensibility ,and widely applied in the embedded system. Lots of research has been done in this paper about the application of ARM processors in the embedded system, with the example of developing the PC/104 module and designing the hardware prototype platform of the special SOC.First,we analyze the advantage of developing the PC/104 module based on ARM processor compared to x86,and put forward a solution of PC/104 module based on the ARM processor S3C2440,and then go deep into the key techniques of PC/104,such as the design of PC/104 bus's interface and universal peripheral interface ,EMC design etc. The test results in the railway surveillant equipment show that the main performance of PC/104 module based on S3C2440 excels the old PC/104 based on x86 processor.Second,this paper introduces the architecture of the special SOC based on ARM core combine and the verification strategy of the SOC603.Then a scheme is introduced about how to choose the device on a typical hardware prototype platform.At last we indicate the verification method of the special controller on the hardware prototype platform with an example.Third,we systematically introduce the transplant process of the VxWorks on the hardware prototype platform,including the characteristic of various VxWorks image files, the startup flow of VxWorks and the customization of VxWorks BSP, and introduce the development platform and debug method of the application program in the VxWorks.Deep research has been done on the development of embedded system based on ARM processor in this paper .One PC/104 module is completed based on ARM processor ,and one platform of hardware prototype is completed for the SOC603,on which the design and verification of a special ctroller are completed and also the transplant of the VxWorks operating system.The result of this dissertation can be a guide for the development of embedded system based on the ARM processor.
