Because of the complex essence of the warfare, traditional method of simulation based on mathematics models can't describe the complex situation changes and dynamics during the advance of the warfare. Agent based distillations (ABD), which model combat as a complex adaptive system, focus on the interactions between agents and not so much on the agents themselves. Agent based distillations provide a bottom-up approach to modeling combat scenarios, and only require the analyst to develop the individual components and then observe the overall behaviour that emerges within the model, so they can get the simulation results in short time and distinguish the critical parameters, which mainly determine the combat effect.Agent based distillations are low-resolution abstract models, so the movement is one of the most important capabilities. This paper mainly focuses on the entities'movement algorithm and formation control scheme.Firstly, we introduce the basic idea of agent based distillations, and then propose an ABD based combat simulation model after analyzing existing ABD systems. The architecture and main components of the model is introduced, and the agent's attributes and rules are described in detail. Then, the general flow of ABD based combat simulation is put forward.Secondly, according to the counter-intuitive behaviors of combat agents, we point out the two factors resulting in the counter-intuitive behaviors, which are the number of entities the agent is aware of and the distances those entities are from the agent in question. An alternative movement algorithm based on the idea of spatial interpolation technique is proposed, and its validity is preliminarily verified.Thirdly, aiming at being applicable in the unknown environment, we propose a new formation control algorithm, which combines the Leader-Follower and Behavior based schemes. The scheme reduces lagging phenomenon, increases flexibility by using l-ψcontrol mechanism, and adopts weighted behavior-combing method with prioritization. It inherits Leader-Follower's advantage of easy-to control flocking behavior and behavior based method's easy-to-implement, and thus generate more stable formation control in unknown environment. Simulation results show that this new scheme can obviously improve the effect of formation control.Lastly, we implement the movement mechanism described above in a conceptual simulation system of Network Centric Warfare (NCW). According to a combat scenario, we compare the combat effect of two forces, one is a networked formation constrained force and the other is a traditional one which lacks communication and cooperation. The results verify the effectiveness of our entities'movement mechanism. Meanwhile, the results show that ABD based combat simulation is an effective tool to NCW study.
