With the increasingly wide use of the embedded system, its combination with network communication has become a tendency. Network safety has become an important factor that restricts the development of embedded system to a wider applied field. Under this condition, it is extremely urgent to solve the problem of network safety in embedded system. In many network safety protocols, SSL/TLS is the most widely used safety protocols applied in Internet. SSL/TLS is an opening and integrity protocol that outlines a standard way to use cryptography (secret key algorithms, public key algorithms and digital certificate) to achieve high levels of data privacy, data integrity, and authentication. It secures the application layer by protecting data in transit. SSL/TLS is probably the most popular security technologies of E -business. This thesis presents the handshake protocol and record level protocol of SSL/TLS in detail. What we present in this paper is based on the SSL/TLS, a well accepted protocol in this business. We analyst the reduction of this protocol in the embedded system, make it work better for the embedded system, and carry out a tiny SSL/TSL protocol to guarantee the information under transportation won't be filched, tampered, forged by anyone who is not authorized. We reduce the protocol according to the character of embedded system, so that we make sure the realization of the basic function, and keep the protocol compact. We reserve the technology afforded by SSL/TSL standards, and carry out the SSL/TLS on both client and server ends of the embedded system.
