Recent years, the domestic and foreign emerged to the research of new passive detection system. Simultaneously, as a result of the rapid development of digital signal processing chip technology, some direction finding algorithms which originally have big computation quantity are now becoming possible to apply in the actual project. Therefore, the topic we study is the method and its hardware realization for Estimating two-dimensional direction-of-arrival(DOA) of coherent signals use non-cooperation sources.Based on the basic principle of array signal processing, super-resolution direction finding technology and ESPRIT algorithm, a mathematical model of two-dimensional DOA estimation on an arbitrary plane array is established and simulated by computer.And the precision and stability analyses of 2-D DOA estimation on these arrays are presented. According to the result of the computer simulation, a new method for estimating 2-D DOA with Special Array is presented for coherent source environment.The method constructs a special covariance matrix using the characteristic of array.Then we can estimate the DOA according to the 2-D ESPRIT method.The method needn't the spatial smoothing techniques and spectral peak searching. Estimates are automatically paired.And it has a higher stability.At last,we proposed the design scheme that takes high speed DSP and FPGA as the core of the real-time direction finding processing system. The test result of the real-time direction finding demonstration interfacing to the signal sources of PC simulator indicates, the direction finding system we developed can estimate 2-D DOA of target signals in the scope of azimuths 0°~360°and elevations 0°~90°.And if the Signal-to-Noise(SNR) is not below 0,an average estimation error is below 1°.On the hardware and software, this system has all achieved the technical specification of project. With the certain practicability, it can provide some technical references for the further research of direction finding system.
