The estimation of direction-of-arrival (DOA) is an important area in array signal processing. The methods based on array signal processing can estimate DOA of several sources in different directions simultaneously. In actual situations, the signal will pass through multiple channels to reach the array antenna which is used to receive signal, the signal will be reflected by obstacle(such as buildings, valley, vehicle and so on) duing transmission, the process will produce multi-path interference which can generate many coherent signals. Coherent signals will cause DOA estimation failure. As in pratice, the signal consists in three-dimensional space, one-dimensional parameters can not estimate all the information of signal simultaneously. Compared to one-dimensional, two-dimensional parameters can describe the signal information more exactly. So the research of array signal processing at two-dimensional has more significance in practical research.Taking into account that the research of DOA estimation at two-dimensional has more value, based the research of DOA estimation at one-dimensional on a detailed study, this paper take the research of DOA estimation at two-dimensional in more in-depth study. On this basis, a new 2-D improved ESPRIT algorithm is proposed based on two parallel uniform linear arrays, and after processed by two-way spatial smoothing method it can estimate both Coherent Signal and Non-coherent signal. The method can use less work to estimate signal, but can get good estimation results. So this new method has a strong sense of practical application.
