Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, Chinese museums have made a brand-new change which those in the old China can not compare to. Each of its progress is fulfilled by the way of changing itself in the continuous need of the society. So in the process of developing, the museum establishment must have met various problems. Especially, China experienced the economic system changes and the transition of two patterns of the society, so the new environment provided opportunity as well as new question-how will the museum survive and develop? As a result, having sufficient funds as a guarantee is a must. But most of our state's museums are facing lack of funds sources, which makes the museum funds problem become obvious. Being short of museum funds does not only restrict the museum's business, but also make the museum become bogged down in running, even face bankruptcy. In consequence, solving the problem of museum funds shortages to make museum have more opportunities and freedom to develop a great deal of sources from the society to support itself, is the practical question which museum must face, and is also the question which needs to have further research and study in museum theory.Studying our state-owned museum's funds problem which appeared after the founding of the People's Republic of China as the object, having the dividing point between the two economic systems and seeing from the theoretical and practical way, in the thesis, the author discusses the main ways of our country's current museum funds sources, the influential factors of the diversified development of the museum funds sources and measures of increasing state-owned museum funds sources, and then analyzes the relevant problems with our state-owned museum funds sources in different ages.During the process of analyzing the theory in the thesis, the author illustrates concrete examples and analyzes figures. Applying statistical analysis and the software Excel, the author makes the calculation comparison among the relevant dada, then makes the graph and bar chart about the data and analyzes. The author is striving for the explanation of our state's museum funds problem through the concrete figures. In the first part of the thesis, through the analysis of the main ways to our state-owned museum funds sources, the author compares the statistics among the increase range of the state finance revenue from 1996 to 2005, the increase range of state finance revenue in the cultural establishments and in museum, and studies the state's support to cultural establishments and the increase of the financial allocation in museum from the state finance revenue. In addition, by analyzing the percentage of annual grant from the state finance revenue, institutional income, ticket income and profit in gross income from 1996 to 2005, the general condition of the museum funds in the recent years are shown.. And the author draws a conclusion: Though the state's support for the museum's financial revenue increases gradually year by year, it still can not meet the need of museums'development. In the second part of the thesis, the author explores the factors that affected the diversified development of the museum's funds sources. According to the statistical analysis of the following: the GNP, the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents, the deposit and Engel's coefficient of urban and rural residents, it can be concluded that it is the inevitable trend for the Chinese state-owned museums to follow the road of the diversification of funds sources, with the overall improvement of the level of residents'consumption, the increased proportion of cultural expenditure among the whole expenditure, the plentiful social available sources and the growing maturity of the conditions of museums to develop institutional income and social funding. In the third part of the thesis, the author discussed the ways to increase the funds sources for the state-owned museum from the aspects of the government and museum. The author collects and studies the policy, law and regulations issued by the government in recent years, makes clear that the government's support policies and preferential measures for museums and puts forward her proposals. Although there are many policies, laws and regulations issued at present in our country to support the development of the museum, the author doesn't think the development of the museum is promoted actively and protected by law. On the contrary, conflicts and discord often appeared among different laws and regulations and in the process of carrying out, which need to be eliminated by the further construction of laws and regulations from the government. In addition, through the analysis and study about the concrete examples of museums, the author points out that the museum should strengthen the communication with government and all circles of the society, build a good public relation, stress on the publicity to itself, perfect the serving system and strive for the new and effective measures which are suitable for most of the museums. In the conclusion part of the thesis, the author advances that in the future study of our state's museums, uncertainties of theoretical approaches in mathematics which will evaluate, analyze and predict the museum's funds problem, could be introduced. This thesis has researched on the subject of the funds resources of state-owned museums in China. It aims at not only collating the documents on funds sources, but also making analysis on them in practice. It is possible to counter different problems in collecting funds for the museums. The up-dated and workable solutions are not often offered until the related factors and the development principles in collecting funds are figured out. This thesis also focuses on finding out these factors and grasping the development law in collecting funds for state-owned museums in China.
