Machine vision is one of the most important technologies in medicine packaging and food processing industries, which would flourish the market in the future. And meanwhile, as an emerging area, the inspection of medical tube-type bottle produces a large demand inland, which leads automatic detection based on machine vision to be an important subject of our current research. Aiming at the characteristic of tube-type bottle inspection, this paper proposed a new scheme for the whole tube-type bottle inspection system that included a diffusion illumination method in semi-closed darkroom and a partial characteristic extraction method through a parameter-made template. The main contributions of this paper are as follows:Firstly, machine vision technology and glass bottle inspection technology were introduced, and a tube-type bottle vision inspection system was designed by adopting PC, acquisition card camera and illumination system. The design and realization of a diffusion illumination method in semi-closed darkroom was focused on in this paper .Secondly, after comparing some classic arithmetic in digital image processing, Winner Filter,OTSU and Canny edge detection were chosen as the main arithmetic which had proved the efficiency and feasibility by lots of experiments.Thirdly, template matching and Hough Transform were adopted to compute the characteristic of the tube-type bottle, and error analysis was done.Finally, the GUI was designed, including main window and different interface for different users.
