This thesis focuses on one board of the BDWM BBS, named Ghost Board. Paying attention to the crowd and the topics of the board, the study covers the structure of the contents, rules and the power structure, the interrelationship of the crowd, the shaping of tradition and the trait of topics. Different from former analyses which only take the board as a background, this thesis studies it as an independent theme. On the other hand, different from former study methods, this thesis applies more folkloric theories to analyze the interplay of the crowd, topics and the tradition. As a start, the thesis traces the history of the board by looking back on the argument of naming, by examining the function of individuals, and by analyzing the transfer of authority from individual board managers to regulations. This part shows how the board runs.Besides the mechanism of the board, narrative is the central theme of the thesis. In this section, there are four items being argued. First of all, this thesis will answer how the tradition was constructed and passed down. Secondly, it talks about the fundamental traits of the board narrative. Thirdly, it explores the way the oral tradition remains popular in board. Last but not least, it talks about the oral tradition's influences on the short stories created by the visitors.Objects of this study, such as the crowd, the activities and narrative of the board, are all related to the folk history of Peking University. The aim of this thesis is to discover the way the traditions of the campus are passed down just as fitting one block in the jigsaw puzzle of the campus folk culture.
