Like the nerves and blood vessels of human body, the underground information pipeline, as an important part of a city' s underground pipeline, functions as the ways of information transformation and communication, and thus is the substantial basis of a city' s existence and development. With the fast development of China' s economy, the exploitation and management of underground space is drawing more and more attention and is becoming diverse. Simultaneously, the fast development of computer and internet technologies make the informationized construction of underground pipeline possible. Shanghai as one of the well-developed coastal economic zones of China, pays great attention to the construction of information pipeline. In order to further improve management level, the Information Committee of Shanghai ranks "Shanghai Management Information System of Fundamental Facilities of Information" as a key scientific and technological project. This thesis was finished supported of one of the above project' s subsidiary project-Database Construction of Shanghai Management Information System of Fundamental Facilities of Information.This thesis is divided into six chapters. Chapter 1 is "Introduction" , which expounds the research significance of the management information system and current construction situations of Shanghai' s underground information pipeline and the main contents of this thesis. Chapter 2 is entitled with "The Development of Geographic Information System and its Application in Underground Pipeline" , which deals with the development of GIS and the application of the management information system of underground pipeline. Chapter 3 is "The Technological Basis of Management Information System of Underground Pipeline" , which analyses the key technology of ArcObjects in system development. Chapter 4 is "The Design of Shanghai' s Management Information System of Underground Pipeline" , deals with the background of the system development and the analysis of demand, and makes a general design, database design, system function design, and interface design for the system. Chapter 5 is "The Development and Realization of System" ,which develops and realizes each module of the system on the basis of the settlement of development proposal and environment, develops the submodule of operational management with the emphasis of workflow idea. Chapter 6 is "Conclusion and Outlook" , which concludes the features and research fruits with a further outlook of future research.On the basis of the study of relevant theory and technology and the practical situation of Shanghai underground information pipeline, this thesis reaches the following research achievements:(1) On the basis of the study of the theory and technology of underground pipeline, the systematic structure and COM technology of ArcObjects, and ArcSDE, this thesis makes the general design of the desktop in combination with the practical situations of Shanghai Underground Information Pipeline.(2) On the basis of the surveys of relevant Shanghai units of information pipeline, this thesis studies emphatically and develops the operational module in combination with the workflow idea.(3) The technology of ArcObjects + C# is used as the front-end development tool, in the support of the backstage data server ArcSDE + SQL Server 2000, this thesis successfully develops the platform desktop system, and accomplishes the management of system and data, the functional modules of basic map operation, searching function, data edition, aid in decision making, operational management, map making and output.
