Research On Ontology-based College Personalized Information Service

With information searching demands increasing, people are coming out with information overloading problem which is disturbing them. Personalized information service is kind of service which provide personalized service according to individual feature of customers.Until now, the under discussing and implementing personalized information services provided in college are for all customers including undergraduate, postgraduate, researchers, administers and other staff, although personalized information service has been chased as ideal target for college information provider. The surviving college information service has no demand distinction between its customers, and it is obvious wrong to give such universe service to all who has different kinds of demands. Take postgraduate as example, the same major is divided into several directions when entering graduate education, and the specialized courses are more deep except those basic courses, so that graduate do not only need to have knowledge of his whole field, have solid specialized knowledge, they also need to have information searching, summarizing and researching capabilities. They stand for college researching groups, and their demands stand for the needs of those groups. Different groups have different demands, and it can not show the advantage of college personalized information service if the college library provide same kind of service to all levels of its customers.This essay targets on Institute of Building and Urban Planning, and discusses the college personalized information service model based on Ontology, which is based on college discipline and library classification.From the personalized information service angle, this essay is going to use theory of Ontology and Ontology tool named Protege which is designed by Stanford University, and realize the Ontology map of Institute of Building and Urban Planning, to make its discipline clear to students and convenient for retrieving of related and personalized information, and get the college personalized information service be better improved. The Domain Ontology will be imitated to connect to MYSQL Database which stands for the library information system of college in the essay and the connection is for the purpose of personalized information pushing which is based on the completed Ontology map, and in that way, the Domain Ontology will support the academic research of college student in a better way.
