The printers are fundamental equipments in offices with the rapid development of office automation technology, while printing files through network becomes more and more necessary. There are two kinds of traditional network printing, one is"share printer on network", the other is using special network printer. But normal users cannot afford the special network printer because of its high costs. And one computer should used as printer server. Once there is something wrong with the server, other computers in this LAN cannot print. So our destination is to develop a equipment to link the printer to the LAN directly, with this equipment the printer can work as a standalone crunode of the LAN, and our print work will become more flexible and convenient. This paper introduce this kind of equipment, a embedded network printer adapter based on ARM. Firstly this paper introduce the characteristics of ARM architecture system. Then explain the usage of LPC2290 micro-controller in detail. Then this paper introduce the USB controller chip ISP1161A1, and discuss the implementation of USB protocol and communication between ISP1161A1 and USB printer. This paper also presents the realization of user interface based on MiniGUI, and user can adjust the printer queue and look over the file content. A file need to be converted according to printer language, only by this way can the printer produce the desired output on the paper. This paper not only introduce various printer language formats, but also presents the software program which can convert files before transferring these files throught network.
