With data speed having exceeded Gbps, engineers must put enough emphasis on recognizing and solving jitter problems. Jitter is timing noise which causes miscarriage of justice of data in transmission. If the data speed is raised up in a system, the extent of jitter will not be changed in several seconds. However, jitter resulting in miscarriage of justice of data will be raised up with data speed increasing when measurement is done during part of bit period. The paper first gives a general description on jitter definition including jitter measurement. Second it gives basic theory about transmission line and its simulation method. After that the paper provides an accurate and an approximation method on calculating data-dependant jitter. The approximation method is used in first and second order linear time invariant(LTI) system which draws some conclusions on jitter characters. The approximation method is also used for calculating a single transmission line. The predicting result is then compared to simulation result. And the propagation method is used in tree-like transmission line. Through comparison between theory proof and simulation, We find the approximation method is feasible in linear time invariant(LTI) system of concentration and distribution parameter. Finally the paper separately gives an example in independent circuit and integrated circuit, and compares the approximation method with the actual measure result which further proves the feasibility of the approximation method.
