As everyone knows, the key question of the information transmission is validityand dependability. The development of modulation and demodulation technology is toreflect this thought. From the earliest integrity of the analog amplitude modulation andfrequencymodulationtechnologies, tothewidelyuseofdigitalmodulationtechnologiesnowadays, all technologies make the information transmission more effective andliable.QAM modulation is a new kind of modulation technology. It is widely usedbecauseofhighfrequencyutilizationratio. The 16QAM modem based on FPGA is studied in this thesis. Firstly, the principleof16QAM modulation is presented, and the mathematical modeling of the 16QAMmodulation system is built. Then, by way of analyzing, the design of the 16QAMmodulation system based on FPGA is put forwards. Finally arithmetic emulation isrealizedwithVerilog. The FPGA chip used in this thesis is: EP1C20F324I7(Cyclone series of Altera). The chip is debugged by software programming. The principle and design method ofbase-band shapingfilter, carrierrecoveryandtimingrecoveryare detailedlyintroduced. The system of 16QAM is simulated with Matlab. Then, each functional module isimplemented with Verilog HDL on the QuartusII software flat, and the behaviorsimulation and the synthesis are finished. Finally, the UARTonFPGAisimplemented. TheVerilogprocedureisdownloadedtotheEP1C20F324I7chipandtheeffectisgood.
