Research And Design Of IAPP Based On Wireless Distribution System

IEEE work group established IEEE 802.11f protocol in 2003, which specifies the IAPP ( Inter Access Point Protocol). IAPP solves the problem of WLAN user's roam between APs in the Data Link Layer, and guarantees the smooth handoff of STAs in an ESS. Nowaday, most realizations of IAPP are based upon Cable Distribution System, in which APs are connected by wire. With the progress of WLAN, more flexible position of AP is needed.This thesis research the instance of IAPP based on WDS(Wireless Distribution System).Through thoroughly researching the structure and software of AP, learning the service definition and operation of IAPP, analyzing the open source code of HostAP, a design and implementation of IAPP is proposed for Wireless Distribution System.In the design, the bridge module in Linux was changed accordingly, MAC frame shall be encapsuled to be WDS frame, and operation of IAPP was also changed.This design advances the flexibility of APs in ESS, and guarantees the STA connected with only one AP in the same time. Moreover, further research of this design make great sense to research of mesh.
