In the last few years, the WLAN techniques were greatly improved. As the major standard of WLAN, the IEEE 802.11 standard has been widely adapted. But the standard does not specify how the mobile station roams between AP's, bringing the difficulty to deploy large-scale topological network. In practical deploy, some manufacturers introduced their private protocols for the communication between AP's, as the result, the mobile stations can roam between the AP's coming from the same manufacturer, but still cannot roam between the AP's coming from different manufacturers. In order to resolve this problem, an open protocol is needed to regulate the procedures for the AP's to exchange the roaming related information and the roaming service can be provided to mobile stations under any AP's which implemented this protocol. We call this protocol as LAPP - Inter Access Point Protocol. This thesis is concentrated on the implementation of IAPP protocol. It presents the details of design and implementation of a HostAP with LAPP functionalities. The HostAP is implemented under Linux operation system, and runs correctly.
