Our country is making great efforts to develop the thruway. ETC (Electronic Toll Collection) system, which uses the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) as the main automatic identification technology, can improve the thruway's efficiency markedly. In this thesis, research works focus on the RFID technology and the design of RFID system in ETC. RFID is a newly arisen technology that integrates a number of subjects. Reader and tag are key parts of RFID. RFID system on the superhighway mostly uses 5.8GHz as its work frequency. The anti-collision arithmetic can help it to identify many tags at one time. This paper is illumined by the Intel Pentium D CPU, so it utilizes the double-core redundancy idea to design the hardware. And an anti-collision method is improved and analyzed. The improved one is combined with practical software, which can give effective improvement to the system's anti-collision capacity. And system test results also show that the reader has reached the design requirement. The main contribution of this thesis is as follows:Firstly, the correlative basic theories of RFID, such as physics basic theory,wireless communication theory,coding technique,information safety technique and etc, are expatiated and studied fully and systematically. These provide theoretic basis for the latter RFID project.Secondly, by analysis and conclusion of a number of general anti-collision methods, a new arithmetic, based on the dynamic binary system scout method, is proposed. And the performance of the improved one is analyzed in detail according to numeric simulation.Thirdly, after comparing all kinds of tags and antennas, the passive read-write double pieces tag and plumb polarized flat antenna are picked out. Tag and antenna are the hardware preparation for RFID.Finally, uses the double-core redundancy idea, ARM and MSP430, to exploit a RFID reader, whose RF transceiver chooses nRF905. This paper writes all program modules with C program language. And many measures are referred to keep out the interferences inside and outside of the tag.
