As a special railway communications technology, GSM-R is now increasingly widely used in the field of the world railway, and contributes to the development of railway industry. The development of GSM-R technology has become China railway's technical policies. Three GSM-R Railways—Qinghai-Tibet line, Datong-Qinghuangdao line and Qingdao-Jinan line which have been respectively built on the altiplano,heavy transport line and busy line prove that our country has yielded some results in GSM-R.GSM-R network is constructed with focus on the railway service. By now, various services are being implemented on railway systems, and with the increasing demand of railway application, more and more services need to be developed. Short Message Intelligent Service as a method of data transmission will be widely applied to the non-security data field.This dissertation presents a new railway service—Short Message Functional Addressing. According to the construction of the current railway intelligengce network and the future network development ,the dissertation puts forward two implementation schemes which are based on extended SMPP interface and CAMEL3 IN,and does some research on them. It defines the prerequisite of the realization of each scheme, improves the function of certain entities, standardizes the signaling of the interfaces and describes the flow of service in detail. At last, the delay, throughput, reliability of Short Message Service is analyzed.
