GSM-R (Global System for Mobile-Rail) has become the direction of China railway communication. While the functional addressing, as an advanced addressing service in GSM-R, is the key technology and the necessary means of railway dispatching communication. Therefore, the research on the functional addressing is very significant. In this thesis, according to special service requirements of China digital mobile communication and the railway numbering scheme, we analyze the functional addressing technology. And the ways of the database storage and the call barring based on locations in functional addressing are investigated in details.In this thesis, the research situation and system structure of GSM-R is introduced firstly, and then give a detailed analysis of business needs, business processes and signaling processes, etc. According to the database storage modes and the search algorithms, combined with GSM-R numbering scheme, we give the search methods and its improving scheme of the functional addressing in GSM-R, and compare their differences.Based on the existing GSM-R functional addressing, the call barring technologies in the functional addressing are studied in details, including access matrix and call barring based on locations. We discuss their requirement and implementation process. And discriminance of Cell IDentity (ID), which used in the call barring based on locations in mobile intelligent network, are described in details. According to the partition of the railway line, mapping of the number and acquisition of location information, giving two kinds of call barring schemes:"UUS1 (User to User Signaling) signaling and the cell broadcast to send the location information " and "USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) and the SMLC (Serving Mobile Location Center) to send the location information". And then discuss the application of the two schemes and illustrate the changes briefly in its performance.Finally, the entire processes of the functional addressing are simulated in software, and acquire a satisfactory result.
