With the implementation of Computer Aided Design(CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing(CAM) in most of domestic manufacturing enterprises, product efficiency has been greatly improved. However, there are many problems such as low data integration, low information share and bad management, because these cells used by enterprise are isolated and incompatible systems and product data cannot be transferred and shared in such systems, so the integrity & safety of product data cannot be guaranteed in the course of their operation.Based on the research and exploration of the distributed PDM system of Yin Chuan Diesel Engine Plant, still concerning of the characteristics of modern enterprises like distribution, systematization and integration of original systems, the author designed a new distributed workflow PDM system, which function the managements of manufacturing processes, items and users'roles and so on, further meet the new need of modern enterprises to PDM system. In the first part of this thesis, the author analyzes the present state of enterprises'implementation of computer techniques and their new demands for product data management. Then in the second part, the author designs the outline of distributed workflow management system based on Web Services, and completes the key parts of distributed workflow engines which provide the platform/foundation of the control of PDM working processes. And in the last part, he demonstrates the application of distributed workflow engines into the distributed PDM systems of Yin Chuan Diesel Engine Plant. The distributed workflow engines may directly function in the designing process of diesel engine cells of Yin Chuan Diesel Engine Plant.
