Research And Application On Web Accessibility For Barrier-free Website

Accessibility, as a research field of independence,is a universal thinking of the Web design. Web accessibility means that people with disabilities can use the Web. More specifically,Web accessibility means that people with disabilities can perceive, understand, navigate,and interact with the Web, and that they can contribute to the Web. Web accessibility also benefits others,including older people with changing abilities due to aging. The purpose of Web accessibility is how to design and develop websites to benefit all web users.With the rapid development of Internet, Chinese are encouraged to access Web services as their convenience. However, the accessibility of Chinese Websites has been overlooked. This research tries to provide an overview of the accessibility of Chinese websites.The work that this paper mainly does is as follows:①The paper introduced the concept of web accessibility,analyzed Section 508 and WAI accessibility guidelines.②The paper researched the accessibility problem in websites and how Chinese with disabilities use Web.③This research developed the Accessibility Web Design Guidelines(Draft). It consists of 5 design thinking and 22 practical specifications,in order to be accessible to people with disabilities or using alternative browsers.④The paper analyzed the accessibility characteristic of web techniques, and mainly researched accessibility characteristic of Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 in six aspect (Image, Form, Navigation, Data, XHTML, Script).⑤This research developed a prototype system——CQU Accessibility Website.The paper proposes the application techniques of developing accessible webs, provide universal design approaches to accessibility and solutions for people with disabilities. It contributes to increase the accessibility of websites and develop barrier-free website.
