Research On Policy-Supported Dual-Stack Distributed Active Measurement System

Effective network measurement is the foundation of network management system. In the actual network management, precise measurement is frequently requested. So it is demanded that network measurement system be neatly configured and support different measurement policies. Along with the IPv6 network development, Internet structure had changed tremendously. At present pure IPv4 network, pure IPv6 network, dual stack network as well as tunnel network interweaves each other. It is urgently requested that the network measurement technology adapt new network environment, which can help to discover and locate more and more complex network phenomenons and problems. In addition, Overlay and P2P technology are unceasingly becoming mature and are applied widespreadly, and distributed network system model is also continually changing. Aimed at the above problems, the policy-supported dual-stack distributed active measurement technology and system are discussed in this article. The main contribution includes the design and implementation of the prototype system and realization of key technologies.Firstly, the development and the tendency of the network measurement, Overlay network and policy-based network management are discussed and analyzed. The Policy-supported Dual-stack distributed Active Measurement System (PDAMS) is proposed based on the actual demand of network management. PDAMS adopts the distributed structure and the centralized policy management mechanism to realize consistent management. Compared to previous work, PDAMS is more scalable and self-adaptive.Secondly, the hierarchical overlay network structure is adopted to solve the time complexity and measurement efficiency of dual stack active measurement in large-scale network and the problem of sharing distributed measurement data.
