Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Chinese women's position improved a lot. The characteristics of rapid spreading, wide covering and powerful infiltrating of mass media play an important role in the improvement of Chinese women's position, are an incalculable force in the development and progress of the Chinese women and they change and influence the ideological concept and cognitive behavior as well.Since 1990s, due to the rapid development of mass media, Chinese women and mass media are closely related. Mass media attaches great importance to women and strongly influence women in many aspects. Under the influence of mass media, Chinese women's life conceptions, value conceptions and aesthetic conceptions improved. What's more, women's cultural taste, spiritual state and economic position are promoted as well. They express themselves more and more actively while facing mass media. Meanwhile, many hard-working and selfless-devoted women of all walks of life turn up continuously in mass media, which is of great account in the roles of Chinese women in the course of reforming and opening and modern construction. On the other hand, we should not ignore the restrictions in women's progress. 1. The unchanging impression on women in mass media is believed that women are sensational, soft, kind and emotional; Their intelligence and abilities are inferior to men's. They are supposed to work at home. Men are dominant and so on and so forth. These ideas control people and nearly become a common social concept which directly influence women's behavior. 2. Mass media distorts and misunderstands women's image, which make women undertake many hardships and become the substitute for social scandals.
