The rapid development of science and technology, the globalization of world economy, the pluralism of politics and culture as well as theever-fierce market competition among enterprises-----all of these haveon one hand offered more extensive development scope for modern enterprises and on the other hand put them under more crisis threats. How to rid the enterprises of the bad effects caused by crises, minimize the damage they might incur and in the meantime spot the possible opportunities in them are significant questions deserving all managerial staff s study. The successful handling of a crisis pivots to a large extent on the full recognition and play of the media's role and the cooperation and the positive interaction between the media and the enterprise involved. The present thesis conducts a thorough analysis of the media's role in the crisis management of modern enterprises from the perspectives of communications, management and public relations. It also holds a preliminary discussion on the ways the media could more effectively serve the enterprise and the general public at the different development stages of a crisis and on the ways the enterprise could cooperate and interact with the media so that they could handle a crisis together.The thesis falls into five sections.The first section is a literature review of the latest study on crises.
