Continuous casting and rolling are key technologies to improve the production efficiency , they can also decrease the cost of product in metallurgical enterprises.The reliability of key equipments in continuous casting and rolling can affect the production efficiency mostly. Breakout is the most catastrophic incident in the continuous casting process, it can influence the quality of casting slab and safe production. Consequently, researching the formational mechanism of breakout and then exploring the new technologies to predict the breakout can reduce this catastrophic incident in the continuous casting process and be valuable in theoretical research as well as the societal economy. In this paper, the three main parts of this research have been displayed as follows.1. After analyzed the reasons of sticking type breakout and longitudinal cracks breakout, the author summed up the characteristics of breakout and brought forward the preventing measure.2. Introduced the measurement of the friction force resulted from billet drawing in continuous casting mold, and analyzed the characteristics of the friction force of breakout and the technological parameters which affected the friction force in the continuous casting at the same time.3. Combined structure recognition and neural network to recognize the waveform of the friction force in breakout. In this structure recognition part, the author used the constrained continuous piecewise linear model based on statistic model to extract important features from the friction force waveform before breakout, then the author used neural network to recognize the waveform before breakout.Finally, a MATLAB6.5 simulation was used to analyze the performance of the method. Then the methods to eliminate the technological parameters which affect the friction force in the continuous casting were given.
