This paper presents the software design of mould friction on-line measuring system for the slab continuous caster and the software design of relationship analysis between mould friction and technical parameters of production. Two capturing algorithms of abnormal characteristics in the friction curve are brought forward in the end, with the discussion of their application in the breakout prediction of continuous casting.The method is simple and applicable that measures mould friction through measuring power of mould oscillation motor. Based on this method, a mould friction on-line measuring system has been built. In the software design of it, emphases are laid on the modules design of down-station computer software, the implement of high-speed sampling, the improvement of software filtering algorithm, the design and implement of serial communication in up-station computer software. In the design of the relationship analysis software that is the assistant part of the measuring system, the construction of database, the data matching algorithm and the design of complicated data curves display and print are emphasized.In the end of this paper, the research of abnormal characteristics capture in the friction curve and its application in the breakout prediction of continuous casting is presented. Based on the analysis and summary of the abnormal time-region characteristics in the friction curve before breakout, ample-change judgement and modified pass-zero-ratio judgement algorithms are designed to capture the two abnormal modes, sharp pulse and big ramp. These algorithms are proved valid by the simulation.
