Personal Handset System (PHS) is developing fast in China as a result of special time, special competition circumstance and special telecom management policy.The author took responsibility and participated in the whole procedure of core network planning of Beijing PHS network Phase II project. This thesis was on the base of this project.Beijing PHS network Phase II has some important technical improvement, such as:1. (Trunking Gateway) TG/ (Access Gateway) AG separated architecture implemented, one more important step close to Next Generation Network( (NGN) Architecture.2. Mobile Switching Center (MSC) and Gateway Mobile Switching Center (GMSC) concept in GSM network was introduced into PHS Network.TG and Signaling Gateway (SG) were combined to acting as GMSC. And SG Version2.0 to SG Version3.0 upgrading proposal was designed, that can execute auto redundance of signaling links.3. Roaming problem between different vendor's networks was solved under TG/AG separated architecture. New roaming mechanism and call flow was designed.A new calculation formula of signalling links was defined and a easy calculation tool was delivered.These new technical improvements were implemented with UTStarcom's new equipment and new software. According to these technical improvements and solving proposal, Beijing PHS network has a fully new architecture and achieves larger capacity than ever. These technical improvements push PHS core network to a new stage.This thesis includes three parts as below:Part 1: Overview. Including foreword and project overview introduction.Part 2: Planning. Including Voice traffic planning, Signaling traffic planning, Routing and call flow desiging, IP network planning and Operation Support System(OSS) planning.Part 3: Discussion. Including Roaming between different equipment provider's network, PHS developing trend and merging with 3G, project engineering implement introduction and the conclusion.
