With the development of semiconductor, all kinds of optic sensors get rid of the stale and bring forth the fresh. The optic system is applied widely in the field of engineering measurement. But now, in the optic instruments, the small-size ones that can be used as the real-time measuring of engineering are still very little. So developing such device can bear a very realistic signification.From the practice, in this paper, an image collecting system is developed. The system can not only real-time computer and display an image by MCU also analyze and computer the collected image using different arithmetic by PC. It can be made into a small-size instrument applied widely in the field of engineering measurement. Because it measures the objects by using the theory of CCD optic formation of a imagine, this system is characteristic of low drift, good repeatability, little lag so that its testing precision is high, especially fitting for inspecting the fixed locations like bridge surface, tunnels, architectures and so on. On the other hand, because CCD camera's multiple can be changed by using the high-resolution CCD or the high-multiple CCD camera-lens for improving the imaging resolution, this system can be applied for inspecting the far distance and measuring mini objects under the microscope, its applying foreground is very broad.Two aspect contents are mainly introduced in this paper. Firstly, the developing process of a new image collecting system is expatiated, mainly constituted of the structure of video signals, the collecting of video signals and the communication and display of image data. The design of hardware circuits and software, the testing precision of PC and MCU and the arithmetic using them is expatiated. The problem of the resolution of image in such system is also deeply discussed. Secondly, the applications in the intact field are expatiated, for examples, the measuring of black-white stripes, the central position of optic strap and the measuring of material and the measuring of displacement. Finally, the characteristic of the system in this paper is comprehensively summed and the problems met with the application of practical engineering is helpfully discussed and explained.
