The core of lighting design is to enhance the esthetic performance based on the satisfaction of indices of lighting design. Lighting design has its duality—technicalness and artistry; high-quality lighting is inevitably the combination of both. The rise of computer-aided lighting design (CALD) has brought a revolution to the area of lighting design: the booming speed of personal computer development, the rapid popularization of lighting analysis and rendering software have greatly supported the realization of high-speed and high-quality design activity. Nevertheless, the current theory and application system of Computer-aided Lighting Design has not developed fully, neither do they provide corresponding design tools as regard to the technical, artistic, and integrated design. This situation has impeded the balanced development of the duality of CALD.In this thesis, the research starts from the building of traditional lighting design flow, it then constructs the theory system of Computer-aided Lighting Design (CALD), and through the analysis of current CALD application pattern and relevant supporting software, constitutes an ideal pattern of CALD application. Under this pattern, this paper proposes the concrete realization, i.e. the design platform of AutoCAD, 3ds max, Ecotect, Lightscape, and self-made lighting evaluation system. Then it constructs modules that facilitate the data exchange of different software in the platform: the light source information export module of Ecotect—Lightscape, and the data file export module of Ecotect—evaluation system; thus realizes the optimized CALD application pattern. As for the neglected function module of lighting evaluation in the current area, the thesis constructs the technical and artistic evaluation system for lighting design, builds the lighting design evaluation system and AHP weight value calculation tool under Visual C++ 6.0 platform with ADO database access. In the end, it selects a specific case of lighting design to start from scratch, uses the proposed optimized CALD design method and the function modules built in the thesis,.thus validates the practicality of the optimized CALD method.
