Low-Density Parity Check (LDPC) code has excellent performance and the complexity of its decoding algorithm is low. More and more applications begin to use LDPC code.After reviewing the current status of channel encoding, we introduce the LDPC code and it's commonly used encoding algorithm. Different kind of decoding algorithms of LDPC code are studied. And we simulate their performance with the help of Matlab. We emphasize on the design of an LDPC code decoder which can support IEEE802.16e standard. The decoder's structure and schedule method are introduced and optimized. We analyze the area and throughput of the decoder which has been realized with hardware description language. At last, the decoder is successfully implemented on XILINX Virtex-II Pro FPGA platform.
