This paper deals with a dual-band infrared simulation system, which is designed for testing the performance of an infrared sensor in different battle fields under different circumstances. For designing the simulation system correctly, the paper describes the working process of the sensor in brief. Base on the working principle, the paper puts forward a framework of the simulation system and analyses the design methods and the functions of each part.Two parts of the HWIL simulation system are described in detail. Firstly, the interface between software and hardware is very important to the simulation. The functions of the interface include the transfer protocol which will be used to transmitting the data, how to program the control software and the firmware and how to develop the driver for the specified application. Secondly, how to synthesize two beams of infrared laser light into single one and how to control the emission power of the lasers are the key parts of the optical system, so particular description about the compound infrared laser light sources is given. According to the double band radiation data which are calculated by the virtual instant field of scene simulation software, the light sources control system modulates the power of the two lasers, and then the radiation power is measured by the radiometer and the sensor. The detecting results are also given.
