Three-tank water is a typically non-linear and delayed plant which has the very strong background of industry, for the whole or part of many controlled objects can be extracted as mathematic model of three-tank water. Research on modeling and control of three-tank water has far theoretical significance and practical value.The domestic and worldwide development of modeling and control of three-tank water is summarized, and three methods of parameter adjustment of PID are discussed in this paper. The hardware structure and working principle of three-tank water is introduced, and its general mathematic model is established by means of mechanism modeling method. The characteristics of both linear and non-linear weir flow meters are analyzed, and both linear and non-linear model of three-tank water are obtained. The flow coefficients of weir flow meters are determined by experiment and the mathematic model is proved to be correct and valid. Variable parameter PID control for the controlled object is designed by the method of segment linearization. Furthermore, T-S model based fuzzy PID control strategy is put forward. Simulation model of three-tank water control is implemented in Matlab/Simulink and the research on simulation of variable parameter PID and T-S model based fuzzy PID control algorithms are carried out. Simulation result shows that these two methods are correct and effective, and by comparison, T-S model based fuzzy PID control for three-tank water has better control performance than variable parameter PID control.
