There has been a long history for computer informatization in the medicine sales field. Although many medicine sales companies have their online marketing, their accessible resource information comes from databases of their own enterprises. Because of the differences among the operating systems and the database management systems and the weakness for semantic descriptions of the databases, etc., it is difficult to realize the information sharing and data exchanging among medicine sales companies. In order to coordinate the business management and the operations among enterprises under E-commence environment and in order to meet the development of enterprises, the data exchange cross-platforms has become a commercial barrier to be solved urgently. In this paper, the business requirements of online medicine sales have been analyzed. A medicine sales management system based on Web service technology is designed. One client can access multiple distributed data services (several database servers scattered over internet) in this application system, and the data provided by those databases could be heterogenic. Then, the research on implementation methods for the data exchanges between distributed heterogenic databases has been done in this paper by taking the medicine sales management system as an example. The data exchange solution based on Web services has been introduced. In other words, a provider provides its services online through Web services, whereas consumers invoke Web services and obtain the provider's data over internet. After that, the data from provider will be convert to the local available (recognizable) data using the data exchange tool. The data exchange tool is based on the concept of Ontology and adopts the standard terminologies of the medicine field as the data dictionary used for the data exchange between different medicine sales companies under E-business environment. Specifically speaking, a given source data pattern can be converted to a local target data pattern according to the standard data pattern (the data dictionary) by the data exchange tool. Data could be transferred from the source database into the target database according to the mapping relationship between the source pattern and the target pattern. In this way, the data integration could be realized. Finally, the feasibility and validity of the proposed data exchange tool are verified through the implementation of the prototype system.
