Network measurement plays an important role in research and management of network. Moreover, one which specializes for a certain router is single-hop measurement. This method measures and analyzes performance of a certain node in the network. Thus, we reveal performance of links and network contained with the node, which is important for us.Delay is a key parameter in evaluating network performance. Specially, the single-hop delay is refers to the period of time during which a data packet passes through a router. Since bandwidths of interior and exterior local area are different, network boundary routers become transmission bottlenecks. Therefore measuring of the single-hop delay of those boundary routers is a pre-requirement for optimizing a network. Nowadays, the existing single-hop delay measurement of the router uses the passive measuring method, this method consume lots of measurement system resource, and require exorbitant measurement equipment. Moreover, computer hardware capacity and data packet capture capacity is limited. This thesis in view of above question, use existing measurement condition, based on packet pair technology to the measurement, has designed the single-hop delay measuring technique of boundary router which one kind of new active measurement technique and the passive measurement technique unifies. This measuring technique has the realization simply, the measurement expenses small, the measurement cost low, the measurement flexible characteristic. Basing on the analysis of measuring data error and comparing with measurement data of the passive measurement method, we can prove that the new method is accurate as well and this method suits to the single-hop delay of route carries on the long time the measurement.In this thesis, by using this measuring technique in the single-hop delay measurement of the boundary routers of Hunan University campus network, through the long time measure and carries on the statistics to the massive measurement data, we has analyzed the data packet through the router smallest delay, the process delay as well as the queue delay, and has given the boundary router delay model according to the analysis result; According to the measurement data the statistical analysis, we focus on relationship between packet single-hop delay distribution with background traffic and packet loss rate. Moreover, another focus will be analysis of self-similarity of campus network export traffic. Applying the variance-time plots estimator, we estimate the Hurst parameter of campus network export traffic. Furthermore, we analyze the relationship between Hurst parameter with campus network export traffic, protocol distribution, delay jitter and packet loss rate, and also reasons of causing self-similarity parameter abnormity in a certain condition.
