With the rapid spread of computers, the scale of Internet becomes more and more large, the structure of Internet becomes more and more complex, and Internet becomes a heterogeneous, large capacity and distribution network. And with such as telemedicine, video conferencing and other new applications emerge, users requirements of Internet are ever increasing, which require us to understand the state of Internet more clear. But since the advent of Internet, its measurement has been lagging behind the rapid development of it. In recent years, after the emergence and development of network measurement technology, there do also exist some problems.End-to-end active network measurement is an important technique of network measurements. Delay measurement among such techniques, which have significance to available bandwidth measurement, network topology speculate and network QoS(Quality of Service) measurement. In active measurement, injecting probe traffic into the links will obstruct the load of goal links. And the packet-sent mode of active measurement, such as packet size, send interval and send rate, are likely to affect the measurement results, resulting in bias. However, in active network delay measurements, such as for computational considerations, the current measurement techniques are not considered the above-mentioned factors. That is why to study the problem to be a meaningful work. This issue is mainly devoted to detect the interference of probe traffic to the links, and how the packet-sent mode impacts the measurement results. The issue mainly includes:1. Around the end-to-end active delay measurements discussed in detail, study the interference of probe traffic to the load. Using theoretical derivation method, we propose Load Interference Function to further analysis. Then study packet-sent mode on the accuracy of measurement results. Propose theoretical upper and lower bounds of delay value with burst cross traffic, and the relationship of upper and lower bounds and packet-sent mode.2. Based on the results of analysis, use NS-2 simulation platform, establish some reasonable simulate experiment to test and verify the above conclusions of analysis. Through analysis and simulation we verify the Load Interference Function and the upper and lower bounds of delay are correct. 3. Do some experiments in the actual network to explore the application of Load Interference Function and the situation of packet-sent mode how to affect upper and lower bounds of delay. We use some appropriate packet-sent tools to do some experiment in Linux environment, and verify theories this paper proposed before. At the end are the conclusion and the summary of the full issue. We look ahead the use and significance of bias analysis of active network delay measurement, point problems and deficiencies of the present study and future research directions.
